My Final Thoughts from Blissdom

My thoughts from Blissdom seem to be neverending, which is certainly good for you! Be sure to read thoughts from Day One and the first half of Day Two. I wanted to share more from Day Two, including the Branding: You, Your Blog, Your Business session, as well as the Book Deals: The Inside Story session.

Many mom bloggers, especially those just starting out do not realize it but by creating a blog, a look for your blog and a few blog posts you are in the process already of creating your “brand“. And, in addition to that you have the opportunity and the ability to make that into a business, if you so choose.

This can be done through the other things that were mentioned at Blissdom, including affiliate marketing and working with companies, or even through a book deal as I will also touch on. [Read more...]

More Thoughts from Blissdom

Friday night I shared my favorite thoughts from Blissdom09. Yesterday was another action packed and information packed day. I wanted to share more thoughts from Blissdom.

When I found out I was going to get to attend Blissdom, thanks to Mom’s Talk Network, I contemplated whether I would choose Apprentice or Maven tracks and whether or not I’d cross over. I settled on choosing Maven tracks and I am glad that I did. [Read more...]

My Favorite Thoughts from Day One of Blissdom

Proudly blogging from Blissdom09 as your Ambassador for Mom’s Talk Network. It is exciting, somewhat overwhelming and amazing to be here.  The women here are outstanding, both on the panels and just the other mom bloggers who are here.  There is nothing like meeting a blogger you have read for a long time for the first time.  The connection is unlike any other, which goes to show just how powerful blogging is to us.

One of the statements that stands out to me is one made by The Redneck Mommy in the Maven session on Content and Building your Readership is this, “We are all just women behind computers.” Her point being is that “anyone” can do this.  It should not be intimidating.  We all have a voice that can be heard.  They talked a great deal in this first session about “finding your voice” and “staying true to your voice”.

Other ideas that were pointed to for helping to gain readership were:

  • The importance of networking. Tsh of SimpleMom.com made the point that we should all not be afraid to network.  Network up, network across and network down.
  • The importance of being consistent. As Amy Clark of MomAdvice.com pointed out.  You set the pace for your blog, but whatever pace you set be sure that you can keep it up because your readers will come to expect it

These are just some of the highlights from my first session at Blissdom.  I’ll cover more from the Social Media session we also had today and tomorrow’s sessions tomorrow night.  Stay tuned!

Glossary: Download

Downloading is one of the most highly used functions of the Internet. Many programs, files and documents are available for downloading from the Internet.

The basic definition of Download is: The act of transferring a file or files from one computer to yours, using the Internet.

The opposite of download is upload (ya think?). When you upload a file or files, you are transferring them from your computer to another. When I first started using the Internet, these two terms were quite confusing to me. They seemed backwards, but once you get these two terms straight, you will be an Internet wizard. Well, okay, you might need to learn a few more things before you’re a wizard, but you will be much further ahead in your knowledge of Internet and computer terminology.

There are a few basic methods of downloading from the Internet. You can download directly from a website or an FTP site. (FTP is a term we will learn a little later down the road.) You can also download from e-mail attachments, although it is highly recommended that you do not download e-mail attachments from unknown sources as they may contain harmful viruses.

As you begin to use the Internet regularly, building your mom blog or web site, the term download will become part of your everyday language and probably part of your everyday life.

Profitable Mommy Blogging Episode #12

April Jones joins me to co-host this weeks show, run down what’s been happening on the blog and talk about her brand new project, Bad Mommy Blogger. I have to give you a ‘Family Friendly Alert‘ when you head over to check BMB out – there’s a reason we call them Bad Mommy Bloggers ;)

April talks with Nina Frye and Cindi Schmitzer, owners of LTD Chix, a line of t-shirts that capture the joy and stress of Motherhood. Nina and Cindi have discovered a unique way of using blogging to market their business. What makes LTD Chix different is the fact that they don’t have a blog! Find out how Cindi and Nina have managed to increase sales of their product through blogging without having to write a single blog post.

Residual Commission Hosting Affiliate Programs

relweb

There are a lot of very good hosting affiliate programs out there but few that offer residual affiliate commissions.

We hope you know about Mom Webs Hosting – it’s a pretty well known brand in the mom community.  I’m a proud co-owner, together with Nicole Dean.  We’re both active affiliate marketers ourselves and we wanted Mom Webs to offer the sort of affiliate program that we’d want to promote.

relwebwhiteWe recently launched a new ‘brother brand’ to provide the same great hosting services to other markets.  This was in response to numerous requests from our affiliates who love our service and reliability but serve a decidedly ‘non-mom’ crowd.

Reliable Webs is a small business/entrepreneur friendly brand for you to promote as an affiliate and earn a steady 20% commission on all of your referrals payments :)

The support system behind Reliable Webs is the same as that you know and respect at Mom Webs.  You can recommend Reliable Webs with confidence and enjoy long term profits at the same time.
