Attend the Blog Party at Faithful Bloggers and Win Prizes!

Faithful Bloggers is having a Blog Party – we emailed owner Courtney Chowning to ask her a few questions about the event.

We see that you’re having a big blog party – what’s going on over there?

We are having a blog party to celebrate reaching 1,000 members! We have been blessed to have a lot of awesome prizes donated and I’m making it easy to enter by just leaving a comment. Of course, there will be new ways to enter all week along by being active on the site.

Reaching 1000 members is a big deal – what do you credit for this milestone?

All the credit goes to the Lord. He has had his hand in the site ever since we started. Anytime I wanted to stop and do something else, the Lord would bring a person or event into my life to show me that the site needed to continue and I needed to stay involved.

SEO has helped a lot. It took sometime, but Faithful Bloggers is finally on the front page of Google for our main keyword – “Christian Blogger”. We are currently sitting at #4 and my goal is to get that #1 position, but ever since hitting the front page of the Google for that keyword our traffic has increased tremendously.

Where do you plan to go with Faithful Bloggers in the next year?

I have a lot of ideas for Faithful Bloggers in the future. I plan on expanding our network of sites and creating a private members only blogger mastermind group for Christian bloggers to get their questions answers in a one-on-one situation and to help brainstorm ideas to grow their blogs without fear of ridicule or the fear of someone stealing their ideas.

Head on over to the Blog Party and see how you can get entry into the giveaways :)

Is Google Analytics a Mystery To You?

I made the big move from trusting my own server stats to using Google Analytics over the last year or so and I’m glad to have done so.  I learn so much more about my traffic and how my content is consumed and linked to.

Initially though, I had to get over the let down of discovering that my websites weren’t getting all of the traffic that my server stats were reporting.  I’m not entirely sure why there is such a large difference but there is.  If you gave Google Analytics a try and discovered the same thing – don’t let that scare you away.  It’s far better to have a realistic understanding of your web traffic than to puff up your vanity with unreliable numbers.

There’s SO much data available in Google Analytics that you can put to good use in your blogging – but overwhelm is normal – and that’s why I’m glad that my friend Courtney Chowning is offering a special Google Analytics Workshop with just that exact focus.

For just ten bucks you can attend her workshop and learn how to install and USE Google Analytics to better your blogging :)

Ever Forget Your (grr freakin grr) WordPress Admin Password?

I did it AGAIN.  I installed a new WordPress blog and forgot to add my password to the database that tracks all of my passwords.  (Yes, shamefully I do this too often.)

Thank goodness for the little WordPress hack made by Village Idiot. It’s called Emergency and it works like a charm.

You download the file here (zip file) and upload the ‘emergency.php’ file to the same directory that your blog appears in.  Then you go to http://www.yoururl.com/emergency.php and enter your desired admin name and password.  Then (very important) delete the emergency.php file from the server.

That’s it – it’s that simple.

Running a Blog Giveaway For Traffic

This is a guest post by Christi Daugherty who is writing for Mom Giveaways.

But Mom, everyone’s doing it! Why can’t I? Well, ladies (and gentlemen) you can, and its not as hard as you think.

There are a lot of reasons to host a giveaway on your blog. You may want to attract sponsors for the future, help promote an affiliate program, pull new readers to your blog, or even just give back to your readers. All of these reasons are great reasons to host a giveaway, you just need to pick one or more and get started.

Step One: Secure Product for Giveaway

There are multiple ways to secure products for giveaways. I will list a few of those ways, but remember to be creative and do what works best for you and your readers.

Working with PR Companies

If you are contacted by PR companies with a pitch to review their product, always ask for a giveaway product. Most PR companies will be happy to oblige, and even pick up shipping to your reader.

“I’m new to blogging and don’t have PR companies emailing pitches can I still get companies to sponser giveaways for my blog?” Absolutely! I suggest pitching to smaller companies about product reviews and giveaways. Let them know what your intentions are with the product that you would like to share with your readers, and a lot of the times that company will say yes. Don’t get discouraged if you are told no. It never hurts to ask. [Read more...]

The Relevant Conference: For Christian Bloggers

I just learned about this up and coming conference from a fellow blogger.  It’s The Relevant Conference.

They have a Mission Statement which includes this:

Relevant is a one-of-a-kind conference that seeks to engage women by teaching blogging techniques and social media skill while also urging and encouraging women to live fully integrated lives with their faith and family.

If you’re a Christian blogger who craves an in person event, this could be a good fit for you.  Be prepared to sock some cash away though – as with most events, the conference ticket and hotel will set you back quite a few precious dollars.

If you can’t go but would love to sponsor someone else, check out this blogger’s pitch for sponsorship.

Do You Need a Blog Designed?

PSK125

I recently had the opportunity to work with Lara Valez of Designed by Lara and had a great experience that I want to share with you.

My friend Angel wanted to start a new blog.  Usually, I would want to design a blog for a friend – but I knew that she would be interested in a particular style of graphics that I’m not especially gifted for.  I immediately thought of Lara and invited Angel to check out her work.

It was a match at first sight and we quickly secured a spot on Lara’s design schedule.

Lara has a very polished and professional approach.  There was a detailed questionnaire for Angel to complete and we were able to communicate everything we wanted in the new design.

PSK125Right on schedule, Lara created the new blog design and presented it to us for review.  We were super impressed and couldn’t wait to put the design on Angel’s blog! (See it at plussizeskills.com!)

If you are in need of a classy new blog design, I heartily recommend Lara.
