Buzzing a Mommy Blogger: Mary Lutz

March 3, 2009 by Stephanie

buzz-a-momThis week I had the opportunity to interview Mary Lutz as part of our new ‘Buzz a Mom‘ project at Mom’s Talk Network.

You can read it here:

What motivated you to become a mommy blogger?

Back in 2004, I was dating my current husband, saw he had a blog and thought it looked fun and interesting. So, I began my personal blog, Being Who God Created Me to Be.

Has your focus or motivation for blogging changed since you began? If so, how?

In the Spring of 2008, I was laid off from my regular job as a bookkeeper. I had watched my friend, Tishia Lee start her own WAH Business as a Virtual Assistant in 2006. I was very interested in doing that myself and often asked her how she got started. She always referred me to Mom Masterminds.

So, I seized the opportunity and started my own VA Business.

I started out just blogging about my progress with the business, which was focused more on my administrative skills, but as I’ve been growing my business, I’ve come to realize that I LOVE to write and am good at it! So, I changed my services from all administrative to more of a focus on my writing skills.

Have you ever received any negative comments on your blog? If so, how did you handle them?

Yes, I have on my personal blog. I wrote a post about my feelings on the election in 2008 and got some feedback from people on the other side of the fence who opposed my views. I expected it though. Because of the type of article it was, I knew I would get opposing viewpoints.

I’ve never gotten any comments on my blog that were derogatory or attacking me personally. If I were to though, I would just ignore and delete them.

Describe your best/favorite day or week as a blogger?

So far, on my personal blog I’ve been honored to receive 4 blog awards from other bloggers. This is huge to me. They make me feel like what I have to say IS worthwhile and important.

Also, I’ve also been quoted from my VA site by another VA, which was awesome.

Which of your posts is your favorite?

I think my favorite post right now…gosh this is hard….I have a couple in mind…is the one I just posted about going Prom Dress shopping with my daughter. It’s pretty funny!

Which of your completed projects has been your favorite?

My favorite completed project was a ghostwriting re-write I did about losing weight healthy. It got published right away and I loved seeing my work get spread across the web (even though no one knows it was me).

What projects are you currently working on or hoping to work on in the future?

Currently, I have a couple of ghostwriting jobs that I love! They are both for pretty well-known women in the work at home arena.

I’m also helping a Christian speaker promote her teleseminar, Women’s Life Empowerment Bootcamp, coming up this month. Of course I want some more writing jobs and am looking at writing my first eBook!

Thank you, Mary, for sharing some of your experiences as a mommy blogger with us!

  • Mary my friend is a beautiful person and I've enjoyed working with her. I met her officially when she joined my christiantwitterwives network on ning. I was in need of a VA and didn't know that Father God had placed her right under my noise. God is good "all the time!" Thanking Him for my friend Mary Lutz.

Keep up the great work Kelly. I may look up your mastermind group. = )
