Popping in to Say “Hi”
Hi, I’m Kimberly and I’m the new intern blogger here at Profitable Mommy Blogging. I’m really excited to be a part of the Moms Talk Network, and look forward to sharing helpful blogging and Internet marketing tips as well as interesting news tidbits that will benefit your business.
A little background about me: I’m married with four children ranging in age from nine to three. I’m a blogger and web entrepreneur working from home and love every crazy minute of it.
It’s so amazing how far the business of blogging has come. You can find blogs covering just about every topic under the sun giving readers vital information and sparking community discussions. As a business model, a blog can do everything from help you connect with and understand your customers and sell products/services to raising awareness about important issues.
If there is a topic you’d like to see covered, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m always keeping an eye out for new ideas.

Some Links For More Learning
Here are some posts that made me think and challenged me. Thought maybe they would do the same for you. In random order:
- I love to make and use videos on my blog. MelanieNelson wrote a great article at Blogging Basics 101 stating some reasons why video will take your blog up a notch.
- Liz Strauss wrote “It’s not the click that doesn’t come that’s a loss. It’s the click that comes to find that we’re not what we suggested we would be.” Read the rest of her article called Great Headlines on the Web Always Win…Except When They Don’t.
- It was interesting to think about the similarities between Joanna’s writing in a group and the internship with Kelly as I read How Writing Grows In a Group.
- A good post by Irene Williams titled Social Media – The Harder You Work, The Luckier You’ll Be. The title says it all for me.
- Newbie Affiliates: How to Choose Affiliate Products to Market This post by Yuwanda Black caught my attention because I’m trying to learn more about affiliate marketing.
These next two posts go along with the post I wrote titled Don’t Do It For Free.
- Check out Will You Hit Your Saturation Point Before Your Tipping Point? by Megan at Velveteen Mind,
- and Why Denial May Make You a Better Marketer by Kelly Watson.
Can Disclosure Prevent Me From Being Sued?
We all know that celebrities endorse products, but we don’t really know if they use them. Mom bloggers that post reviews use the product. It does become an advertisement, but above all it is a review.
Are you aware that the FTC is trying to decide if review blogs are “violation of good business practices”? In April 09 an article was posted on the ABC site titled Parenting Blogs May Be Held Liable for Product Reviews.
Until I find out what is going on I’m taking the following steps:
- have a disclosure on my blog using the template from DisclosurePolicy.org,
- make sure I disclose if I was given a free product to try or paid for the review,
- clearly state if I’m quoting someone else, and
- be honest about how the product worked or didn’t work.
There is some more great information at Mama Saga.
If you are a reviewer keep your ear to the ground to find out what happens with the FTC and review blogs.
Jendi: I Applied and Was Accepted
Do you remember the Blogging Internship that Kelly was talking about? I’m one of the lucky participants! My name is Jendi and I’m a new intern for this blog. I’ve blogged at Jendi’s Journal since June of 2007, but just recently gotten more serious about making some money. [Haven't we all!]
Some of the subjects I plan to blog about are:
- Wordpress – only platform I’ve used and I love it;
- Carnivals – great fun and good way to meet people;
- Blogher and other advertising;
- Twitter and Tweetdeck – these 2 put the fun in social networking;
- Plug-ins - they make your blog look nice and help manage things;
- and more!
What would you like to learn about? I’ll be your personal research assistant. Anything you don’t want me to write about?
I’m so excited to have this opportunity to learn from Kelly! Make sure you’re subscribed so that you can learn along with me.

Buzzing a Mommy Blogger: Mary Lutz
This week I had the opportunity to interview Mary Lutz as part of our new ‘Buzz a Mom‘ project at Mom’s Talk Network.
You can read it here:
What motivated you to become a mommy blogger?
Back in 2004, I was dating my current husband, saw he had a blog and thought it looked fun and interesting. So, I began my personal blog, Being Who God Created Me to Be.
Has your focus or motivation for blogging changed since you began? If so, how?
In the Spring of 2008, I was laid off from my regular job as a bookkeeper. I had watched my friend, Tishia Lee start her own WAH Business as a Virtual Assistant in 2006. I was very interested in doing that myself and often asked her how she got started. She always referred me to Mom Masterminds. Read more
Free Membership for Mom Podcasters at Mom’s Talk Radio
Last fall I tried to listen to some of the fun podcasts I’ve seen around the blogosphere.
Unfortunately, every time I started a podcast on my computer one, or three, of my children decided they needed to be where I was and make lots of noise. This meant I couldn’t hear the podcast.
After several tries, I finally gave up listening to podcasts and chalked it up as another activity I’ll enjoy when my children are older. Read more
Introducing Stephanie, Kelly’s New Intern
Hi! I’m Stephanie, Kelly’s new intern for Profitable Mommy Blogging.
Like many of you, I am a wife, a mom and a business woman.
In 1997, I married my college sweetheart, Joel. Shortly after our wedding, he found a job in Rhode Island and moved me from rural Arkansas to suburban New England. Over a decade later, I am still amazed that a girl who grew up among wheat fields now lives between Boston and NYC!
In 2003, we began adding children to our Rhode Island home. I never dreamed I would birth 4 babies in 5 years or become the mom of three boys (and 1 girl)!! Laundry, rocks, and trains now fill much of my time and home. Read more
Blog Internship Update
It’s the end of week number three for my blogging intern, Sharon Trombly. Here’s a quick update:
In week number one her goal was to become familiar with the Wordpress Visual Editor, learn how to upload pictures and make a post to the blog each day. Then at the end of the week she put together a post that shared some ‘Link Love’ with other bloggers.
In week number two she continued to blog daily and was introduced to Twitter. Midway through the week we also introduced her to TwitterMoms. Since social networking is almost entirely new to her, these were big steps. Read more

What is a Blog Internship?
One of the wishes I received during the Work at Home Moms Talk Radio Business Christmas Wish 2008 was from a mom who wished for blog mentoring.
This mom wanted to learn the ropes of blogging. Working with Wordpress, developing a good blogging plan, promoting through social networks, etc.
At first I thought the wish was ‘too big‘ to be granted. Then it occurred to me that she would be a perfect candidate for a blogging internship. Read more
