A business card might get you an introduction.  A media kit might get you a job.  Here are some things you should have in your media kit.Google Analytics Hacks

Tell them about the genius behind your site

  • Include a short bio;
  • What you write about – in a nutshell;
  • A professional looking picture; and
  • Contact info – are you available for phone or Skype calls?

Tell them who knows about you

  • Include your blog stats per month;
  • Demographics/Info about your readers that could include gender, age range, # of children, education, employment, income, location, ethnicity;
  • How influential your audience is [do they blog, twitter, use facebook?];
  • Your numbers [Twitter followers, Google Rank, Alexa Rank, Technorati authority, newsletter info, blog key words];
  • Affiliations, Forums, Groups you’re a part of; and
  • Don’t forget to include offline influence – we do talk in real life also.

Tell them what you will and won’t do

  • List your advertising prices & sizes
  • What type of payment you will accept – I personally would only accept PayPal or Post Office money orders and make sure I have the money before I do anything.  Contracts are a good thing!
  • Review and Giveaway Policies – Will you return products?  Will you mail giveaways yourself?

Tell them what you’ve done in the past

  • Have you had the good fortune of being mentioned in a press release?
  • Testimonials from loyal readers

That’s a big list of things to gather together.  You can do it.  Mix, match, and make it your own.  Scribbit has a simple yet effective media kit while Maria Bailey has a pretty fancy one.  Once you get the basics together just quickly update it every month.

Some people like to post everything online for the world to see.  Some post everything except the prices.  Some email it as requested.

Here’s an excellent post by Penny Pinching Diva about writing a media kit.  Here’s a previous post from this blog with media kit links.

You can download free templates at Organizing Your Way and Mom Bloggers Club.

Last, but not least, one more link about making a pdf document.

How many of you already have a media kit?

  2. I already have a media kit, and need to create a direct link to it on my site. When I originally created it I used one of the templates listed above and it was VERY long. I found my sponsors got very confused. Since then I switch from the 10 page Word doc to a 2 page well laid out PDF. I am very happy with it!

    I’m so new I haven’t done this yet, but I will, so thanks for the great tips and links!

  4. I already have a Media Kit but there’s always room for improvement! Thanks for including all this valuable information.

    I use a different PDF creator that’s available for trial download (unlimited) but it leaves a small watermark on it (can be removed by purchasing the full version) but as of now, I don’t see any reason to as the watermark doesn’t really seem to matter.

    I have yet to make my media kit. I hadn’t considered it seriously yet because I’ve been transitioning my blog and didn’t really know where to start. This is such a great help and so practical & useful. I appreciate it a lot!

    This is an AMAZING list. Thank you! You have made me want to get started right away!! One other thing to consider that I’ve seen on other sites is a list of interview questions that an interviewer could use to work off of.

  7. I so need a media kit. I’ve been avoiding this task, but I’ll get it done soon.

  9. No, no kit yet. Wow, lots to think about… You know I’ve been wondering something for a long time. I hear a lot about content, content, content… but when it comes to profitable blogging its always well, sure you need content but….

    What comes first? And does good content trump all?
