This note came in this morning:
“Kelly, I’m a brand new mom blogger and it feels like there’s a mom blogger club that I can’t find the join button for. How do I break in and make connections?’
Let me turn this question over to the mom bloggers who read Profitable Mommy Blogging.
When you were new, what did you do to make friends and get your blog known in the mommy blogosphere?
Leave a comment with your ‘get started’ tip. At the end of the day – if we have collected at least a dozen solid tips to help this mom out, we’ll choose one tipster at random to receive $25 in PayPal cash.
(Psst… make sure you use a valid email addy so we can get in touch if you’re chosen for the cashola!)

I joined twitter
Twitter- allowed me to meet and get to know a lot of fab and helpful moms/people while teaching me more everyday.

My best tip is to leave quality comments on other mom’s blogs, especially on days when you write an awesome blog post. You’ll receive traffic to your blog by those viewing your comment, and you’ll begin to have a presence in the blogosphere and in your niche. Use the same name, and concentrate on a few top blogs rather than spreading yourself too thin.

A friend must show themselves to be friendly. To gain friends and get known, be friendly. Twitter is great for networking, chatrooms with like-minded people, etc. Word of mouth is a better promoter than StumbleUpon because it’s usually people that known you, have had dealings with you. The domino effect has a lot of potential. Be friendly… it gets that ball rolling. Before you know it, new mom bloggers will be known!

Take the time to visit a few blogs regularly. Add to the conversation and start to develop the key relationships. Then continue those relationships at Twitter and using other social networking tools.
Once your online relationships start to grow, get a blog buddy! Someone who is on the same general path as you. Help each other out by sharing tips, promoting each others posts, and acting as sounding boards for each other.
And most of all be patient. Developing relationships, traffic and blog authority takes time. Enjoy the process!

I agree with all of the suggestions – especially the “be patient” one!
But my suggestion is to participate in some memes – like Thankful Thursday, Wordless Wednesday, etc. And when I say participate I don’t just mean add your site to the meme’s Mr. Linky and leave it at that but start to travel around to other participants and leave comments there too.
Participate in the same meme consistently and visit the same places each week too plus tack on one or two new ones each week to start building those relationships with new people. And have fun!
Annette´s last blog post..Of Cookies and Dough…
Well, I was going to say chime in with joining social networks like Twitter, but that was taken which isn’t surprising since it’s the biggest way to get to know others in the blogging community. Then I was going to say participate in Wordless Wednesday and other memes, but someone beat me to that too.
I personally found that holding a contest or giveaway got more people involved. It doesn’t have to be anything huge, but be sure you are using Twitter to it’s fullest and get the word out. Also, be sure to submit your contest to giveaway sites. There are a lot of them out there that only take a few seconds to submit to. And don’t forget to ask on Twitter if anyone posts these types of things on their own blogs. Many will gladly post about you contest or giveaway if they know about it.
Oh and another big thing is to post regularly. A stale blog will lose visitors fast. Give them plenty of reasons to come back and get to know you.
And lastly, I hope 3 tips is ok, don’t forget to have your RSS feed set up to make it easier for people to remember you. They can subscribe by email or add you to their feed reader and will be notified whenever you post something new…keeping your blog fresh in their mind keeps them returning as well.

Although I’m not a mommy blogger, my best tip for making friends and getting my blog known in the blogosphere is to be myself and share my personal story. I also like to encourage commenting on each blog post I make.
Angie´s last blog post..My Workouts for the Week of 11/24-11/30 2008
I do a lot of social networking. Spend an hour a day doing that. And, for every blog post you write, social bookmark it, ping it and Tweet about it. Do join sites like Blog Catalog and MyBlogLog and visit other blogs in your category linking back to your own site with interesting comments so that you’ll pique the interest of that blog’s readers. Also write articles for article directories like ezinearticles.com which will bring you human visitors and get you backlinks to increase your blog’s SEO position.
It definitely takes time to build a user base. Networking with other bloggers in your niche will be helpful and don’t be afraid to ask people to help you by bookmarking for you on a service like Yahoo Buzz, Digg or Stumbleupon. Don’t forget to participate in forums and put your blog link in the signature, too.
Happy blogging!

My advice is to network and make friends outside the blogging world. Join online groups that share your interests – not to promote your blog but to share your knowledge and experience and to truly make friends. Facebook is a good way to find like-minded groups, but there are also Yahoo! groups and other online forums.
Hope this helps!

Offer to write an original article as a guest blogger on someone else’s blog. Most bloggers welcome fresh content. It’s a good idea to send along at least an outline of what you will blog about, if not the entire proposed article. When you send it, just give the blog owner a deadline. That way if you don’t get a reply, you can withdraw the offer and send it to someone else. You can either ask the blog owner to introduce you and link back to your blog, or include a short author bio at the end of the article with a link back.

Twitter is your best friend! Commenting on other mommy blogs is a way for others to get to know a little something about you. You’ll make friends faster this way. And in return many of them will visit your blog and comment as well.

Everything that the other ladies have shared in spot on but I would also include getting a partner to share the work and help your grow your blog.
With a partner you have to share the profits (if you’re trying to make some money) but you also share the work load. One of you will always be available to post fresh content which leaves you time for family, days off, vacations & IDon’tWanna days. Besides that, it’s just plain fun to share the ups and downs with someone “in it” with you.
Where to find a partner? Check out the sites listed above – twitter, facebook, online mentoring or networking groups. They’re all great places to begin the search.

Joing BlogCatalog in the Mom Blogs category. Find other mom blogs you like and network.
K.C. Gagne´s last blog post..5 Links Tag
I published a few blog posts first before I went looking for others like me. I posted comments on their blogs and started commenting regularly. I stumbled across blog carnivals and started to join in with them. It’s been a long slow journey. Twitter has opened things up a lot more and all the social networking in general.
Melitsa´s last blog post..Barefoot books giveaway
What I did was browse mom blogs and look at their “blog rolls” and just went “blog hopping” from blog to blog leaving comments and therefore those people would come back to see where the comment came from and come and comment on my blog. It was neat and some of those blogs I still read and comment on today. Commenting is the fuel that keeps a blogger going!
Don’t be afraid of the experienced bloggers, watch and learn from them. Use twitter and build up a network of friends there, visit their blogs and comment, develop relationships with PR people and companies if you want to do reviews and giveaways. Contribute to sites that allow you to link back to your blog. Just network, network, network. I’m just starting to move from feeling like an outsider to feeling included and it took some work to get there!
Shannan P´s last blog post..Winding Down
These are some really great ideas that are sure to help new mom bloggers! The keyword is network, interact, get noticed.
Cindy Thomas´s last blog post..BlondieWrites Quibbles and Tidbits
One of my favorite ways to connect with moms was through mom masterminds (www.mommasterminds.com)
Otherwise, just continue to visit the blogs of those moms you like and make useful comments! I realized I had been admitted to the “mommy blogger” club when I was “tagged” by a mom blogger that I admire for an online game! You never know when mom’s notice your comments, and in most cases, any good mom blogger will read the comments, and may soon start to feel like they know you, too (and then, ta da! – you’re in!)

I would say when someone leaves a comment make sure and reply to them. Make them feel like it matters to you that they are there and that you care what they have to say.

In a way I still feel as if I’m starting out, but I’ve found it easiest to just be myself and put some of myself into my posts. The products I promote, for the most part are products that I have personal experience with.
I’ve joined Twitter most recently, but am also a contributing member to a couple of different social networking sites. (Contributing be the key word there) It’s more than just joining the community and putting up your profile – people get to know you. As you meet people, they’ll check into your links, your blogs, etc. and you build a network that way as well, as you’re checking into the links and blogs.
Lauren´s last blog post..I am Thankful Meme
I didn’t read all the other comments so forgive me if I repeat but the best way to break in is to just jump in with both feet. I know it’s so easy to be intimidated but there is no need to. Start commenting on other mom blogs. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself or ask questions. Remember we all started in exactly the same place. Also participating in weekly carnivals (such as Menu Plan Monday and Works for me Wednesday) are excellent ways to get noticed.
Hope that helps!!

Kelly McCausey´s last blog post..Marketing Your Blog
I still consider myself a newbie but there have been a few things that have worked well for me…many mentioned here already.
Twitter and social networking is awesome!
COMMENT-COMMENT-COMMENT! Be a sincere follower of other blogs that you like. Read their post, be interested and let them know. People can tell if you’re dropping in for selfish reasons.
Meme’s like Wordless Wednesday are not only fun, but they do help build up your community of bloggy friends.
Giveaways! Once you start establishing yourself around the neighborhood, start giving away some goodies! Everyone loves goodies.
Post consistently….i love to check in on blogs daily. I think having something to say once a day is a great way to get regulars to come back.
And just be yourself! Type the way you talk….just be real! ?

When I first started I actually left comments on other mom blogs. Which those comments can definitely bring in some traffic, but if you want to get loyal readers you will want to make sure there is plenty of quality content on your blog too.
Oh an twitter is great too, but again twitter can bring the traffic but if you want loyal readers (and traffic) then quality content should definitely be a priority.
