Is Your Website Sticky?

Welcome Mom Bloggers! If you're new here, please subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and please do share our site with others!

Normally when someone says sticky I grab the washcloth and head for the kids.  A sticky website, however, is a good thing.  If your website is sticky it means that visitors will stay longer.  They will visit more pages, and they will book mark it to come back again.

Some simple things you can do to make your site sticky are:

  1. Make sure your page loads quickly
  2. Have your subscribe information prominent
  3. Include related posts at the bottom of each post
  4. Make the links open in a new page
  5. Include links right in your content to other content
  6. Have a list of categories in a prominent position
  7. Make sure your website is easy to navigate
  8. Use the More tag so more posts are visible on the main page
  9. Include a next post/previous post link
  10. Keep your website attractive without cluttered sidebars

The possibilities are unlimited!

Keeping visitors on your site will help your bounce rate.  A “bounce” is when a reader comes, looks, and leaves.  Having a giveaway that gets you lots of comments without loyal readers will affect your bounce rate because those visitors just bounced through on their merry way to more giveaways and probably won’t be back.  You want your bounce rate to be a low percentage.  You want readers to visit more than one page, to drink their coffee and stay a while.  A good bounce rate statistic of 65% or under should be included in your media kit.

  • Great tips, Jendi. I still need to set up my categories and tags! But I'd like to put "related posts" at the end of each post once I have more content.

  • Using the "more" tag has been a great asset to my blog - and having my subscription info at the top of my blog has brought in new subscribers in the past few weeks! However, my sidebars are my Achilles heel and I hope to address that in my blog redesign soon. Good points here!!!
