Amy Yowell started My Mommy Needs a Life (what a cute title!) in December of 2007. Her blog was started as a place to vent her frustrations. She shares her story about the struggles of raising not one but two disabled children on her own and dealing with an abusive ex husband that is very difficult to deal with.
She soon found that her blog wasn’t just a place to vent her frustrations but to build relationships with others that contact her to tell her they are facing similar situations and it’s nice knowing they aren’t alone. Just by sharing her story she’s touched the lives of those around her.
As I looked around My Mommy Needs a Life I found myself wiping tears from my eyes as I was drawn into reading post after post. I couldn’t help but find myself thinking wow I have it so easy as a single mom compared to her. It was humbling and amazing to read all that she has been through but to never ‘hear’ doubt, fear, hopelessness or anything negative in her posts.
Amy seems to always keep things in perspective and sees things in a positive light. You won’t find whining and complaining on Amy’s blog, just straight from the heart day to day issues of the life of a single mom raising two disabled boys.
Amy also writes about her journey into the work at home mom community. She talks about how she’s tried several different things but none of them worked out, or at least not how she wanted them to. And then finally she shares that she is excited that she’s found something that she considers a ‘real’ job which will help provide a life for her and her kids.
