The power of Mommy Bloggers continued to be a hot topic in the Blogosphere last week. Even mainstream media picked up on it and added to the conversation.
Did you watch Ann Curry addressing the topic of Mommy Blogging in a series called “Digital Mom”? I love how the first Mommy Blogger in the video says that her blog started as a hobby and has grown from there. Boy, can I relate!
Meredith Viera also did a piece focused on blogging and how today’s moms are more digitally savvy than the moms of the past. My mom still can’t set the clock on her VCR but I upload digital pictures from my camera to my computer to my blog so I think Meredith is right; Moms are definitely more technologically savvy these days.
But, isn’t everyone? Just about how much technology has changed. BlackBerries and iPods didn’t even exist two decades ago! It boggles my mind to consider what the next decade holds for us!
I find it interesting that some moms have embraced technology and their new Mommy Blogger Power while other moms, though not resistant, aren’t as thrilled about their new role in marketing. I wonder what makes the difference in each mom’s attitude.
Some experts have even suggested that Mommy Bloggers are on the cutting edge of social media. That shouldn’t be surprising, after all, who is more social than a mom?
My favorite idea on the topic of Mommy Blogging and marketing comes from Guy Kawasaki. He acknowledges that in order to sell their products male marketers have to learn how moms think and that means taking time to get to know us.
It’s too bad not all marketers have learned that Mommy Bloggers can help them succeed. But, I’m sure it won’t take them long to learn when they see their competitors moving ahead of them thanks to Mommy Bloggers.
What do you think about the Mommy Blogger marketing power or Mom 2.0? Is it real or just hype? A fad or here to stay?

I think it’s real, and I think it’s here to stay-for a while at least. I think we definitely haven’t hit the apex of what Mommy Bloggers can do, and I think more marketers will catch on in time. I do think blogging is going to be around for a while longer, but like everything else it will get crowded out by something else. My children, talking about my antiquated ways, will say, “Mom was a blogger.” Funny thought.

The funny thing is when I started blogging I didn’t realize what I was getting into. I felt like I entered an entire world of mommy bloggers. I love it. I do feel like it’s real and we are hear to stay. As long as there are moms there will be mommy bloggers or a community of moms trying to relate to someone else similar to them.
