Posting More Than Once A Day?

January 28, 2009 by Kelly

Welcome Mom Bloggers! If you're new here, please subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and please do share our site with others!

This week I upped my blogging intern’s posting rate to two per day.  She soon asked me why since she looked around at other mom bloggers and didn’t see anyone else doing it.  (I know that some are – she just hasn’t been around long enough to see a wide range of blogging styles.)

I’m glad she asked.  Remember, the goal in this internship is for her to understand all the reasons why.

The ‘how often to post’ questions has been around for a long time and there are a lot of different opinions on it.  It really boils down to the purpose of your blog and the type of content you want to share.  Liz Strauss has written a great post about this.

Family Foodies is intended to be a daily blog and a weekly podcast.  (The podcast is on an extended hiatus.)  As a daily blog, it is our intention to provide a LOT of great bite sized resources, recipes and family foodie friendly content.

Why?  Because families eat three meals and three snacks a day.  Moms and Dads (whoever does the cooking) is thinking about food, shopping and meal planning a LOT during the day.

From a monetization point of view, more daily posts = more daily page views and that’s great for our ad network income and for reader exposure to our related offers.

That is why I want Family Foodies to have more than one post per day.  I’d be happy if we had three or four posts per day – but I won’t put that kind of pressure on one intern ;)

How often do you post to your blog?

  • Great post! I didn't think about the fact that more post would get more page views and more people viewing offers. Since I'm at a point where I am trying to figure out where I really want to take my blog this is great information.

  • It is also good to post more than once per day when you use ad networks. Getting people to come back more than once can be VERY profitable. But as always make it worth their while to come back with really good content.

  • ...and you already said that in your post. LOL. Rock on Kelly.

  • I try to post every other day. I don't want my readers to get overwhelmed by too many posts. I know that I personally don't care for it when blogs have more than 2 posts a day except for food blogs where they post all their meals and snacks but that's just me.

  • I'm in the "more is better" camp. And I don't have a relationship with an ad network. But the more posts, the more traffic.

I blog every day on my mom blog but not on my business blog, although that is my goal. Eventually I would like to blog more, especially with my recruiting more guest bloggers.

    Thanks for piping in!

This week traffic on the Family Foodies blog is up about 25%. I have to believe that its because of the extra posting :)
