Affiliate marketing is still one of the best ways to make money blogging. The problem is the market is flooded with thousands of affiliate marketers promoting the same products, the same way.  Use these ten strategies to increase your chance of searchers buying through your affiliate links.

1. Pick 3 Core Products at Multiple Price Points

Core products are ones that you will repeatedly recommend.  Think about 3 products that you use on a a regular basis e.g. email service, keyword research tool, and a membership site. Try to cover three price points to appeal to a wider audience.  Select a low priced option to increase the chance of people purchasing through you just because it’s inexpensive/low risk.  Also locate a product that offers recurring commission. Niche blogging

This week I touched on the topic of niche blogging.  I didn’t get a chance to really dig into the subject as much as I would have liked.  So I pulled together some blog posts that I think will guide you in starting on the right foot with niche blogging, or getting back on track if you’re not getting the expected results.

Let the Market Change You – Glenn Livingston shares his personal story of how it took more than research data and SEO tactics to make an impact in his niche market-guinea pigs.

Online Marketing Starts With Results Not Reasons – Some of you developed a niche blog around a passion.  Your reasons probably fall into the areas of wanting to help people and share all you know about your niche. The Ugly Truth about Passionate Niche Bloggers

Passion doesn’t pay the bills.  Passion is not enough to sustain a business. Online you generally have two camps when it comes to niche blogging.   Those that are passionate about providing content for their niche, and those passionate about marketing the niche.

So which camp do you fall in? Are you a content purist who focuses solely on providing the best information with the idea the money will come as a result?  Or do you focus more on a marketing approach, in particular search marketing? For you it’s about mastering SEO and then filling in good enough content as good measure.

Both methods have their advantages.  But what do you need to do to make them both work seamlessly for your niche blog?  To find out, read this excellent article by Dee Barizio at Search Engine Journal .

He’s written his article from the standpoint of what a search marketer lacks in niche blogging.  As a blogger, just flip the script to gain perspective on what you need to improve to profit from your niche blog.

Niche Blogging: How to Get More Business By Marketing Less

yard sale fun - name tag

In my post One Reason Why You’re Blog’s Not Making Money, I talked about connecting the subject of your blog with an evergreen niche.  Expanding more on this angle, I want to introduce niche blogging which falls into the category of niche marketing.

What is Niche Marketing aka Niche Blogging?

A distinct group of people who share a common something (problem, like, activity) is a basic definition of a niche.  Marketing to this specific group is known as niche marketing.  Add to that using a blog to reach them,  and you have niche blogging.  From a business perspective, a niche is  a category of consumers to zone in on since they’re more likely to buy your products and services.  Note: A demographic by itself is not a niche.

Why Niche Marketing?

Are you a mom blogger who thinks that other moms are your target market?  By making this generalization, you fail to reach the moms who really want your services.  Keep in mind that not everyone needs everything at one time. This fact of life makes niche marketing effective. The stages of motherhood in itself can lead to narrowing down a market in hundreds of ways.  The more you can speak specifically to a market’s situation, the greater the return for your advertising. If you’re in a noisy crowd would you respond better to your name being called or a call for “moms” in general?

When you can call a customer by name, their unique need, you’ll command their attention every time.

Both offline and online, but especially online since you don’t have a storefront for people to notice in passing, niche marketing is a solid business strategy.  Whether you’re looking to test a market or to minimize marketing expenses, niche marketing is a simple way for you to make a mark without spreading yourself too thin.

One Reason Why Your Blog’s Not Making Money

Evergreen niche

The niche market you choose to blog around is an important factor in its profitability.  There are literally thousands of topics to focus on and new interests develop daily. To ensure that you’re positioned to profit you should evaluate if yours is what’s considered evergreen.

Markets that address “timeless” concerns are known as evergreen. Oblivious to trends and fads, they’re usually identified by universal issues that transcend time, location, and demographics.

If your focus is not directly related to an evergreen niche, you may be able to give it an angle that ties into one.

Blog Promotion Tip: Research Content Sites to Optimize Your Article Marketing

Analyzing Web 2.0 content sites is a savvy way to boost your blog promotion using article marketing.  When I say Web 2.0, I’m speaking of sites like Squidoo.com, Associatedcontent.com, Hubpages.com and Ezinearticles.com Blog promotion

Google thrives on providing the most relevant, up-to-date information for search inquiries.  Content sites are magnets for Google bots because they’re constantly adding fresh content. As a result, these sites have high page rank, search engine rank and traffic volume.

A quick search for any keyword phrase is likely to turn up at least one Web 2.0 content site on the first page of Google.  With this in mind, it’s worth it to strategically place your articles on these sites for maximum exposure and traffic.

How to Get Your Point Across Fast

InspMindMap

If you’ve been on the web any amount of time, I’m sure you’ve read how online readers have short attention spans.  Searchers scan web pages instead of reading the full text.  Reading online is different than printed materials because visitors usually come to your website seeking a specific “piece” of information. In most cases, they didn’t wake up saying I want to curl up and read an entire website today.

How do you stop them from reading and running?

One way is to use infographics.  To avoid searchers skipping over key points of your 1000 word, stellar blog post, visually emphasize the points with infographics.

Charts, polls, and mindmaps are eye-catching infographics you can use to keep your reader on the page longer.

Coolgrahics.com is a website all about using infographics.  There are plenty of examples to give you ideas and inspiration.

Guest Blogging: Why Summertime is the Right Time

summertime
Summertime is a hot time for guest blogging (pun intended). In the past week the blogosphere has been buzzing about the topic. If you’re a blogger seeking to build credibility and make connections fast, this is the way to go.

Guest blogging for a well-known blogger in your niche brings  built-in readers, traffic, and authority.  All you have to do is bring great content.  In a previous post, I talked about how blogging on a daily basis didn’t fit my personality.  If you can relate, then guest blogging is a smart way to supplement your schedule.  Instead of writing post after post for your blog that’s not as visible, you can write one post for a popular blog to boost your traffic in a matter of days.

Like you, bloggers are real people-people who take vacations, who get tired, and who need a break.  For these reasons, summertime is a great time to secure blogging spots.

Get going with these hot off the press guest blogging resources:

Finds and Favorites: Contentrix

Contentrix is a resource that should be on every mom blogger’s list. It’s founder, Alice Seba, is a true content marketing maven. I like Alice because you see her work in action.  She practices what she preaches by consistently publishing excellent content.

Beyond basic “how to write” lessons, Contentrix gets into the strategy and fine tuning of content that pulls.  In other words, the “marketing” side of content marketing.   As I mentioned in my Prepared Blogger series, the idea of blogging misleads you.  There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes of successful content.  Contentrix will help you get a handle on all the parts that make or break your content.

In these two videos, Alice demonstrates how the simple practice of editing makes a huge impact on your blog posts.
