Hashtags: What They Are And How To Use Them

A hashtag is literally a pound sign. When someone organizes a Twitter Party or chat they send out an “official hashtag” which consists of a pound sign followed by a word or words. By using the pound sign you are able to tie similar tweets together so you can follow along during a chat or pull all the tweets up later.  Here are some examples of popular generic hashtags: #networking #marketing #bieber #graysanatomy If you are hosting a party or holding a webinar and having people respond by twitter you should set up a more specific tag so you can pull up the tweets related to that particular event.

In the following video I explain how to save a search in Twitter.com, Tweetdeck, and Hootsuite.

Twitter Question: What is a Hashtag?

hashtag-question

What is a Hashtag? That’s a great question and proof that our internet world keeps changing. It was not very long ago I had no idea what a hashtag was and now I find them quite exciting to use.

Twitip just published a great explanation of the hashtag today so be sure to go check it out for the full 411.

How do I use the hashtag?

I’m using two hashtags on Twitter right now.  First, I use #mm for any post that relates to the Mom Masterminds website or membership.  Our members also use the tag whenever they talk about MM or invite others to join, etc.  In 2009 this hashtag is going to be increasingly important for reasons I can’t share just yet ;)

Second, I’m using #wahmwish for all posts that relate to the fulfilling WAHM Christmas Wishes, an annual Work at Home Moms Talk Radio tradition.

Profitable Mommy Blogging Episode #6

This week’s interview is brought to us by Profitable Mommy Blogging’s April Jones. Her guest this week is Amy Lupold Bair of Resourceful Mommy.

When Amy decided to host a sitewarming party for her blog, she had no idea that it would turn into a source of income. I attended the party and the response was overwhelming. Amy compiled a panel of succesful Moms for guests to chat with and discuss Mommy blogging, social media and other topics. To attend the party, guests simply followed Amy and the panelists and used hashtags and Twitter Search to follow the discussion.

On the night of the Resourceful Mommy Launch Party, #RMLP was among the top-rated topics on Twitter.

In this interview, Amy tells us how she started blogging, where she came up with the idea for a sitewarming, and how she ended up launching a business hosting parties for others. She also explains how it works and how you can attend a party or even have your own. This venture has grown so quickly that she will soon be launching a new website dedicated to sitewarming parties.
