What Is Article Marketing?

Article marketing pre-dates blogging. It was used for content on static websites, and some think that guest posting has replaced it. While it may not be as popular, article marketing is still a good way to get links and traffic to your site or squeeze page.

If you want to increase your exposure and skyrocket your profits check out Easy Article Marketing by Kelly McCausey and Nicole Dean.

Article marketing can help:

  • promote your physical product
  • grow your virtual assistant business
  • promote your website
  • get more subscribers
  • promote your digital product
  • grow your affiliate program
  • help your online radio program
  • grow your forum
  • and more!

So how do you do article marketing?

Write a 1500 or more word article on a specific topic. Obviously you want to pick a topic that relates to your area of expertise or what you want to sell. Make sure it’s informative, grammatically correct, focused, and formatted. Then write a good author bio with a link to whatever you are promoting. If you can’t write there are ghostwriting services that will help you for a fee.

After your article is polished and ready to go start submitting it to article directories or pay someone to submit it to article directories. You can go crazy and spend days or weeks submitting one article. I suggest that you pick a handful of good sites and be satisfied with that. Here are some of the more popular directories:

You can also check for forums, mom networks, and Yahoo groups that let you post articles to extend your reach. The goal is to build links to your site, attract new traffic, and showcase your expertise.

In guest posting you have to deal with email and other people. You should create original content for each post; and it’s a good idea to make the post fit the normal style of the blog where it will be published.

In article marketing you have to deal with the directories and their systems, but you can get a lot more traffic out of one article. It can be written in your style at whatever level you are comfortable with.

Do you know the difference between writing a blog post and an article? Have you done any article marketing? I’d love to hear your tips in the comments!
